| Research Abstract |
Although distinct creative disciplines, De Stijl’s forms and Schonberg’s dodecaphony both constituted strong conscious initiatives away from the “self-evident” norms of painting and architecture premised upon gravity or music subordinated to tonality toward free expression. Moreover, shared concepts and statements they both voiced about “no absolute down, no right or left, forward or backward” clearly reflect their respective “non-gravitational” and “non-tonal” oeuvres shaped by pursuit of creative forms with no centering “weight.”
