単一分子計測を用いたナノスケール光物理過程の直接可視化

Research Abstract

ナノスケールにおける光物理過程、特に励起状態ダイナミクスは、光電子デバイスなどをデザインする際にキーとなる因子である。しかしながら、光物理過程の計測をナノメーターの空間分解能で行うことはこれまで不可能であった。そこで本研究では、単一分子計測法を応用した超解像イメージング法を適用することによって、ナノスケールで、励起状態ダイナミクスを直接可視化することを目指した。先ず超解像イメージング法の構築及び最適化を行った。顕微鏡のメカニカルな安定性の向上、測定中の顕微鏡ステージの動きの補正などを行い、その結果数ナノメーターの精度で蛍光イメージング計測を行うことが可能となった。次に、本手法を用いて共役系高分子MEH-PPVの単一分子鎖内での発光サイトの空間的分布のマッピングを行ったところ、ナノメーターの精度で単一分子鎖上の発光サイトの空間的分布を決定することができた。分子量の異なるMEH-PPVについて検討したところ、発光サイトは分子量によらずほぼ均一に10ナノメーター程度の間隔で分子鎖上に分布していることが明らかとなった。この結果は、これまでに集合系の測定から平均値として得られている共役系高分子での励起子の移動距離と良い一致を示しており、本測定を通して励起子移動を直接ナノメータースケールで可視化することができたことを示している。一方、わずかではあるが、発光サイト間の距離が60ナノメーターを超えるような分子も観測された。これは、これまで考えられてきた共役系高分子での励起子移動距離である5-10ナノメーターと比較し非常に大きな値であり、共役系高分子内で生じる励起子移動のメカニズムを再考する必要があることを強く示唆している。さらに、この測定からはナノメーターサイズの分子鎖の形状を光学的に直接決定することができ、解析の結果、多くの分子鎖は棒状の構造を取っていることを実証することができた。
