Research Abstract |
To access the function of TIM-1 on respiratory epithelial cells, the human type II alveolar epithelium cell line A549 was used. Although A549 expressed high level of TIM-1 on the cell surface, it was not able to phagocyte apoptotic cells. Moreover, A549 has different TIM-1 mutations among each cell clone. These mutations probably affect the binding between TIM-1 and apoptotic cells.
