Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、「固体電解質と遷移金属酸化物からなる全固体熱トランジスタ」の実現を目指している。具体的には、上部電極/遷移金属酸化物/固体電解質/下部電極からなる積層構造を作製し、電圧印加によって起こる遷移金属酸化物の酸化・還元による結晶構造変化と、それに伴う大きな熱伝導率変化を利用することで、高熱伝導率状態と低熱伝導率状態を繰り返し制御可能な全固体熱トランジスタを実現する。

1年目(2022年度):熱の伝わり方を電気スイッチで切り替える全固体電気化学熱トランジスタを世界で初めて実現した(Adv. Funct. Mater. 掲載)。米国の研究者が電解液やイオン液体などの「液体」を用いた熱トランジスタを開発していたが、本研究で全固体化できたことのインパクトは極めて大きいと考えている。

2年目(2023年度):全固体熱トランジスタの高性能化を目指した研究を行い、①高電気伝導性の活性層を用いることが重要であることを見出し(ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces掲載)、②固体電解質として使用するYSZ単結晶板の厚さを薄くすることで動作電圧の低減・高速化に成功した(ACS Appl. Electron. Mater.掲載)。また、③活性層をLaNiO3で置き換えることにより、熱伝導率制御幅の改善にも成功した(Adv. Sci.審査中)。さらに、④新たな材料探索指針に基づき活性層を探索し、従来の熱伝導率制御幅を二倍以上の全固体熱トランジスタを実現した(論文執筆中)。

Reason

当初計画では3年間で全固体熱トランジスタの実現、特性改良を行うこととしていたが、大幅に前倒しし、2年間で従来の液体を利用する熱トランジスタの性能を二倍以上上回る高性能全固体熱トランジスタの試作に成功した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2年目に実現した従来の熱伝導率制御幅を二倍以上上回る全固体熱トランジスタをスケールアップするための基礎的な研究を行い論文発表するとともに、スケールアップして実際の熱のディスプレイを試作することにより、実用化の際の問題点を抽出する。また、米国の研究者に追いつかれないように、次年度以降の研究展開を見据え、最終年度前年度応募(基盤研究(S))を行う予定である。
