Summary of the Research Project

応募者の研究チームは、世界に先駆けて腸内ファージゲノムの解析手法を確立し、腸内細菌・腸内ファージの宿主―寄生体関係の同定に実績がある。本研究は、特に肥満や糖尿病と関係するとされるClostridium ramosumとクローン病の増悪に関わるAIECを標的に、pathobiontに特異的な溶菌酵素の同定や改変ファージ技術を応用した新規ファージ療法の開発を目指すものである。

Scientific Significance and Expected Research Achievements

腸内細菌叢と疾患との関係については近年種々の報告があり、pathobiontの特異的な制御法の開発は社会的ニーズが高い。本研究は、応募者らのこれまでの実績に基づいた、ファージシステムによる選択的腸内細菌制御法の確立を目的としたものであり、独創性が高い。本研究により、将来的な日本独自の腸内マイクロバイオーム制御法の創出が期待される。
