Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research project has progressed on target with the proposed timeline. I have completed a review of current literature in dialogic education to establish a core concept of good practices and noted criticisms. I have conducted and transcribed seven interviews with one professor, three students, and one employee at an electronics company. I have also administered surveys to 50 students to ascertain perceptions of professionalism and skills they require to succeed. Results of surveys and interviews were compared to establish commonalities in perceptions as well as any gaps. Data analysis enabled me to build an initial picture of the skills necessary for students to perform in international settings. Most importantly, I have been able to understand specific dialogic events in the classroom, research, and industry settings that can benefit students as they transition to their future lives. Initial findings from data gathered were presented at two conferences. ACE2022 in Tokyo and ISSDL in Florida, U.S.A. One paper was published as part of the conference proceedings for the ACE2022 conference.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The research is progressing as expected. Interviews and survey data are being collected at a consistent rate. In FY 2022, pilot interviews and surveys were carried out in the classroom, in labs, and in a company via Zoom. Data analysis provided an initial picture of the necessary skills Japanese students require to perform effectively in international research settings. Interviews will be arranged in 2023 with three more professors from three different faculties. A second round of surveys will be administered to students during August- September 2023. A comparative analysis of the data collected between 2022-2023 will be completed by the end of FY2023.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Data will be collected, examined, and analyzed throughout FY2023 and research results will be disseminated at domestic and international conferences. I will attend a learner development conference in England (4/2023) to discuss the research project and find potential collaborators. I have sent in a proposal to a teaching conference in Tokyo (11/2023). A book chapter was submitted to the publishing house DeGruyter Mouton.
