Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Completed data collection and analysis of 150 participants, at three different proficiency levels. Presented these preliminary findings at the prestigious vocab@vic conference (Wellinton, December 2023). Research relates to choice of different word counts necessary to predict proficiency in relation to lexical choices (lexical diversity measurements). Research findings appear to indicate that fluency mitigates vocabulary choices, although not as expected. The higher the proficiency might not always indicate specific word choice, but indicates that choices are consistently made at specific proficiencies.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Currently, awaiting research assistant data analysis, which pertains to flemma, lemma, word count measure analysis. Once completed, we aim to examine how these different word counts relate to different units of analysis.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

As we are awaiting research assistant data analysis, which pertains to flemma, lemma, word count measure analysis, we cannot complete our first data analysis and presentation. However, once completed, we aim to examine how these different word counts relate to different units of analysis and to work towards publication. This first set of data is currently being analysed and will need to be paid for. Following this initial round of analysis, we then aim to consider additional analyses which allude to bi/ trigram delineation and the extent to which these relate to word count measures. These further analyses will also require RA payment and processing, to then support paper writing and publication.

Causes of Carryover

Our first data analysis and presentation is incomplete due to issues with research assistant data analysis. Our goal is to analyze the relationship between word counts and units of analysis, and publish our findings. The first set of data is being analyzed and requires payment. After this analysis, we will consider additional analyses related to bi/trigram delineation and word count measures. RA payment and processing are required for these additional analyses, supporting paper writing and publication.
