Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We completed interviews with teachers and administrators both in Japan and Thailand. The data has been analyzed and presented internationally at conferences in Malta and Thailand. Results have indicated that teachers with expectations of cultural differences adjust to school settings easier than those who considered Japan or Thailand to be culturally close to their home country. Other results seem to indicate that certain nationalities tend to marry with Japanese or Thai after spending time teaching in those countries while other nationalities tend to marry with people from their home country which inhibits their adjustment. Thai cultural training seems to have little effect on adjustment.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Interviews both within Japan and Thailand has progressed smoothly and most of our data analysis has focused on this qualitative data. We had intended to include quantitative data in the form of a survey and while we have collected some data data collection in Thailand has been slow. Since the primary data is interview data this is not a significant problem.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We plan a final round of follow-up interviews in July of 2024 to confirm results and member check these with participants. We will also make an effort to collect more quantitative data but this is only a secondary concern. We plan to present the findings at two additional conferences this year and are preparing to publish the results.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Funding will be used for followup interview data collection and to present the findings.
