Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We simulated the base case for increasing flow rates (Weissenberg number) to explore the response of the system. We found that a Hopf bifucartion drives the system from steady to time-dependent states. We performed a parametric study regarding the extensibility of polyner solution and the elastic modulus of the solid. Low polymer extensibility and high solid elastic modulus suppress time dependent states. We also studied the effect of the blockage ratio, aspect ratio, and angles of attack. We find that time dense fiber beds promote time-dependent states. In all cases we derived an apparent permeability coefficient (Darcy-like law) and a slip length.
