Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Following the plan made in the first year, work continued corresponding to the two parts. 1. background and literature part. Further exploration of key trading products and partners, I have conducted field investigations in China and in Europe to collect first-hand information in addition to literature. 2. data part. The Chinese port rejection data are organized and used for some preliminary analysis. The U.S. market data is still under cleaning up. Problems of compatibility has developed. Several solutions and alternative methods have been prepared.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

Due to the U.S. trade data cleaning up problem reported previously, the research has been a bit delayed than planned. To solve the data problem, I am looking for alternative data source while re-organizing the data so as to be matchable with the Chinese data. If the data problem could not be solved, another analysis methods with a different model is also being considered. I am going to continue working on this problem. The coming year's work plan will also be adjusted to incorperate the data problem.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

More field investigation will be conducted. This year the focus will be the U.S. market as the importer. So I will visit various stakeholders in the U.S. and the USDA and trade services for alternative data. China will be visited again as the major trading partner. A third partner country will also be visited accordingly to broaden and deepen the research scope.
Further data matching work with preliminary anaylsis will be done. Based on the datasets, various economic models will be applied.

Causes of Carryover

A small amount of money is left this year becuase I have tried to save the expenditure during business trips for field investigation. Due to the depreciation of Japanese yen (especially weak against U.S. dollar), to make the coming year's business trip to the U.S. feasible, I have tried to save the budget on purposely. They money will be continuously used for field investigations in the coming year.
