Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We've identified microRNAs within extracellular vesicles that show distinct expression patterns in HIV-infected individuals. We've also established an in vitro system to assess how these extracellular vesicles affect the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in THP-delivered macrophages. Our data indicates a differential impact on cytokine expression in these macrophages when co-cultured with extracellular vesicles derived from HIV-infected individuals compared to those from non-infected individuals. Our next steps include expanding this observation to other cell lines and validating the role of miRNA cargo in cytokine secretion.
