Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Alveolar bone loss due to periodontitis adversely influences on oral health-related quality of life. Cell-based alveolar bone regeneration therapy using human cultured periosteal cells in combination with autologous bone exhibits great potential in the treatment of alveolar bone defects, but it is necessary to be combinated with new artificial scaffold materials for less invasive and highly efficient treatment. In this study, carbonate apatite granules and recombinant human collagen peptides were mixed with human cultured periosteal cells respectively and transplanted into calvarial bone defect model in vivo. From histological and micro-CT analysis, transplantation of these new scaffold materials with human cultured periosteal cells had great effect on bone regeneration compared to transplantation of these materials alone.
