Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the context of identifying social determinants, we utilized nationwide cohort data to demonstrate that among the working-age population of 30-49 years in Japan, there is a link between low income and an increased risk of cardiovascular events (diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity). We also showed that health disparities based on income have widened over the past four years. Additionally, using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in the USA, we found that lower educational attainment is associated with a higher risk of death due to diabetes. Further, by applying causal mediation analysis to the same data, we showed that approximately 20% of the effect of a parent's education level on their child's obesity is mediated by income.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
