Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the 1st year, we mainly worked on the reviews of energy end-use technologies (WP1) and addressed the biggest challenge regarding the research methodology (soft-linking of two model frames, WP3) of this project. We published 1 paper and had 1 paper accepted. We also presented at 2 international academic conferences.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In the first year, as planned, a review work on energy end-use technologies has been conducted (working package 1). Thorough review work would lay a strong foundation for the project by ensuring that the research output would contain the current state of knowledge and potential gaps to address.
In a reversed way, we addressed the biggest challenge regarding the research methodology (soft-linking of two model frames, input-output analysis frame and energy system modeling frame, working package 3) first. We published 1 paper and had 1 paper accepted utilizing such soft-linking methodology. This sets the stage for effective integration in subsequent stages of the project.
Therefore, in the first year, the project is processing rather smoothly.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the next steps, we would go back to working packages 1 and 2, namely mapping cement production technologies and conducting the optimization of the technology combination.
Based on the review, the parameter sets should be established. The optimization of the production technology combination will be conducted by the Input-Output-Linear-Programming approach. With the least system cost, the solutions under baseline year scenarios subject to specific climate goals (specifically in this project, achieving carbon neutrality in Japan by 2050) will follow the scenario design.

Causes of Carryover |
The personnel expenditure and remuneration planned for research assistants this year were simultaneously covered by another funding source, thus the expenses were re-arranged with a small amount remaining for the next year.
