Outline of Annual Research Achievements

In the second year of this project, we mainly worked on the life-cycle parameters of different cement and concrete technologies (Working Packages WP1.2 and WP2.1), interviews with fieldwork experts and industry stakeholders (WP1.3 and WP3.1), and doing test runs for long-term mitigation scenarios (WP3.2).
We published 1 paper based on the interviews. We also presented preliminary results on 1 Japanese domestic academic conference and 2 international academic conferences.

Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

In the second year, as planned, we mainly worked on the life-cycle parameters of different cement and concrete technologies, including clinker substitutes such as GBFS, fly ash, and calcined clay. These are conducted considering the feedback we collected from fieldwork experts and industry stakeholders. We also published a paper based on such interviews.

We have also successfully modeled the dummy technologies in the long-term optimization model, which is a more advanced optimization approach compared to the linear optimization we proposed in the application year.

Therefore, in the second year, the project is processing rather smoothly.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In the next steps, since all technologies have been well prepared, we will finish model runs (try both approaches, the more advanced Integrated Assessment Models and the original Input-Output-Linear-Programming approach) and summarize the results as an academic paper.

We will also add international comparison for those technologies.

Causes of Carryover

The personnel expenditure and remuneration planned for research assistants this year were simultaneously covered by another funding source, thus the expenses were re-arranged with a small amount remaining for the next year.
