Outline of Final Research Achievements

The project aimed development of single-step synthesis of chiral metallocenes through enantioselective formation of a carbon-metal bond under the catalysis of chiral cations for controlling unsymmetrically substituted cyclopentadienyl ions. Owing to the lack of knowledge of the reaction process between cyclopentadienyl ions and electrophilic metal salts, it has found that obtaining enantioselectivity in synthetically useful level is very difficult within the method planned in the proposal. Although we did not achieve our objectives, we obtained certain experimental chemical insights into the metallocene formation process, which had remained unclear, as a result of our research.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

構造化学・材料化学分野に加え、触媒化学分野や創薬科学分野においても重要なキラルメタロセンの新たな合成法の開発を検討した。実際に選択的に目的物を合成するには至らなかったが、これまでほとんど解明が進んでいなかった特殊な構造をもつシクロペンタジエニルイオンと金属求電子剤との反応過程の理解につながり得る一定の実験化学的な知見を得た。
