Outline of Final Research Achievements

Hibernation is one of the survival strategies to overcome critical situations, such as a low-temperature environment and food shortage, by conserving energy consumption at an extremely lower body temperature than normal. Based on the insights gained from the analysis of hibernating animals, the principal investigators have demonstrated that hypothermia has an additive effect on malaria drugs using two types of experimental systems: a culture model and infected animals.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
