Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study aims to reinterpret the non-labiodentalization of the Latin U/V sounds in the Romance dialects of Spain and southern France through an analysis of contemporary dialectal sources and older literary sources. In this process, a reexamination of previous studies confirmed the need to study the change of Latin U/V and F as a single issue. Furthermore, an attempt was made to elucidate the maintenance and change of Latin F sounds and to resolve the theoretical problems of the "stratum theory" ("teoria estratistica” in Spanish) based on language contact.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

従来の研究は、スペインとフランス南部におけるロマンス諸語の部分的な比較に留まり、その原因を十分に検証できていない。本研究は、当該地域のロマンス諸語全てを研究対象にすることで、ラテン語U/V音の非・唇歯音化の原因を一体的かつ網羅的に追求する。新しい比較研究の観点から当該の原因を検討すると同時に、個々のロマンス諸語における先行研究の成果を統合する。また、異なる言語の言語資料を同一の方法論で分析するだけでなく、近年に編纂された資料を用いることで新しい言語データを提供する。そのため本研究は、ラテン語からロマンス語への変遷に関する重要な基盤研究となり、ロマンス語の概説書等への貢献が期待される。
