Outline of Final Research Achievements

I conducted a comparative analysis of the headwords listed in the Kamakura period etymological dictionary, Myogoki, with those in Iroha Jiruisho. The results revealed that 56% of the headwords in Myogoki (excluding Volume Seven) either completely or partially matched those in Iroha Jiruisho. Furthermore, it was observed that the overlap of vocabulary and the rate of correspondence in Kanji representation from Volumes Two to Six differ from the subsequent volumes that were added later. Regarding the textual revision of Myogoki, I visited the Miyazu City Maeo Kinen Bunko (Maeo Memorial Library) and advanced the work of revising the transcribing text.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

『名語記』の掲載語彙は、鎌倉時代当時の言語を反映していると評され、また、俗語が多く含まれるとも言われるが、その実態は明らかではなかった。かつて拙稿において『名語記』が『色葉字類抄』を参照していることを指摘したが、今回の研究で、掲出語全体の半数以上が『色葉字類抄』と共通していることがわかった。これは『名語記』の掲載語彙の性質を考える上での手がかりとなることだろう。
