Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project showed how a transdisciplinary ethnographic approach can reveal interactions between the global environmental crisis, surging nationalism, and China’s rise. It showed such connections in the ethnic Kachin region between war-torn Burma (Myanmar), China, and India. For example, when studying the controversial Myitsone mega-dam project, this research revealed the long history of on-the-ground encounters between Kachin and Chinese sides, but also other local ethnic and religious actors. Three manuscripts have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals; Prepared three more manuscripts to be submitted.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
