Outline of Final Research Achievements

On Irabu Island, water supply via a bridge from Miyakojima began in 2015, but many fields on the island have not yet been equipped with drainage facilities and are still dependent on rainwater, reservoirs, and wells. Currently, there has been no significant impact on the island's agricultural water environment due to the water supply. In addition, interviews regarding changes in residents' awareness revealed many positive impacts, including improvements in the living environment. The results of the 2024 survey are currently being analyzed, and once completed, will be compared to the 2018 results to examine changes in residents' attitudes over the six-year period.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまで架橋による送水が離島の農業や水環境に与える影響を検討した例はほぼ見られなかった。今回の調査から送水開始後の水環境の変化を記録することができた。また、観光業の著しい発展や、隣接する下地島空港への民間航空会社の乗り入れ開始等、ダイナミックな変化が起きている伊良部島における架橋後の住民意識の変化を調べた研究は見当たらない。一方、今回の結果から、架橋は生活環境の改善といったプラスの影響だけでなく、観光業の発展による弊害や島民の個人主義の加速等が引き起こされていることがわかった。以上の結果は数多くの島嶼を有し、複数の架橋計画が進む日本において、架橋による農業や住民への影響予測に貢献するであろう。
