Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Bismuth (Bi), a typical metal, is known as a safe and inexpensive element that can replace highly toxic transition metals. The development of Bi-catalyzed reactions has recently attracted attention. Since Bi has little known function as a redox catalyst, in this study, we have developed the dehydrogenative cross-coupling (CDC) reactions using Bi as a catalyst. As a result, the CDC reaction of 3-hydroxycarbazole and 2-naphthol was successfully developed under bismuth triflate-oxygen conditions. The reaction was found to be applicable to a wide variety of substrates, and 21 desired coupling products were obtained in up to 94% yield.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
