Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study investigated the role of IL-1α of cancer cells in the cancer microenvironment of oral cancer in cancer growth, invasion, and metastasis. The findings showed that IL-1α expression varied among human clinical specimens and oral cancer cell lines. The specificity of IL-1α expression in advanced cancer invasion areas may reflect its association with the migratory potential of the cells. In conclusion, we found that it may be important to see the expression level of IL-1α as a prognostic factor in each case.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
IL-1αと癌の病態に関する報告が約40例に留まる中で、口腔癌とIL-1αの関係についての報告はほとんど認められない。口腔癌を含む頭頸部癌において、IL-1αの発現量が高いほど生存率が低いことが報告されている。口腔癌の臨床検体を用いた外科病理学的解析結果および癌の病態に影響を及ぼすIL-1αの役割を追究した本研究は貴重な報告例であり、癌微小環境におけるIL-1αが予後を予測する新規のバイオマーカーまたは新規治療の標的として有用である可能性が期待される。
