Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined urinary biomarkers and calcaneus quantitative ultrasound (QUS) among mothers and children in a large birth cohort study. In a cross-sectional study of urinary biomarkers and QUS among children aged 8 years, high levels of urinary calcium and microalbumin were associated with low levels of QUS. A longitudinal study of maternal urinary biomarkers during pregnancy and QUS at 8 years postpartum among mothers also showed a negative association between urinary calcium, magnesium and QUS.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、一般集団の母親及び子どもを対象とし、尿中バイオマーカーと骨密度に関する指標について、横断的検討及び縦断的検討を行った。尿中へのカルシウムやマグネシウム、微量アルブミンの排出が多い場合、骨密度に関する指標が低いという傾向が見られた。日本において母子を対象とした尿中バイオマーカーと骨密度の関連について、大規模疫学調査によるエビデンスは限られている。本研究にて得られた結果は、低骨密度に関するハイリスク者の把握と保健指導への応用が期待できる。
