Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Compared to non-movers immediately after the disaster, older adults who moved to temporary housing had 3.8 times the risk of depression about 6 months after the disaster, but this risk was reduced by about 40% for those who changed their group participation status. On the other hand, when followed up to about 3.5 years after the disaster, those who moved to temporary housing tended to have a higher risk of chronic depression and PTSD symptoms, while those who moved to non-temporary housing such as deemed temporary housing or rental housing had a higher risk of delayed onset of PTSD symptoms as well as the risk of chronic depression and PTSD symptoms. For ordinary-time relocation, those who were dissatisfied with their home at a time of fewer than five years after relocation had a higher risk of depression compared to long-term residents who were satisfied with their home. Home environmental factors related to home dissatisfaction were housing facilities and rent/maintenance costs.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
