Outline of Final Research Achievements

We analized the pilot study about Japanese emergency physicians (EPs) burnout. We found that Japanese EPs scored more severely than those in other studies on personal accomplishment. We suggested the correlation between burnout and imposter syndrome in Japanese emergency physicians. Then, we conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire study of selected 34 Japanese emergency departments (EDs). We examined the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey score, the Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale, and its associations with ED-level- and EP-level factors in a multivariable analysis. The rate of impostor syndrome among Japanese EPs was similar to reports other countries. In our multivariable analysis, reduction in time of sleeping, bed management, 24-hour shift, caregiver and non-childcare were associated with burnout. Young EPs, 24-hour shift, and follow-up meeting were associated with impostor syndrome.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
