Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this research, we aim to improve the electrical energy generated by the MFC and the mechanisms by which microorganisms transfer electrons to electrodes. Laboratory investigation are currently under process for wastewater treatment and bioelectricity generation using Microbial fuel cell systems. A detailed literature review about biofilm formation, properties, specific characteristics, and their application for energy fields in Microbial Fuel Celles application. Essential materials were prepared for the lab-setup. The researcher visited the wastewater treatment plant to collect the raw wastewater, which is the source of the organix matter for the current study. The set-up of the experimental work, by purchasing the required materials and chemicals. A trial batch is under investigation. It is worth noting that one set of experiments needs 45 days to be completed. Conducting preliminary series of batch tests is necessary to determine the optimal conditions for bacterial multiplication and biofilm formation considering manipulation of different reaction conditions (temperature, pH, mixed-culture vs specific culture, etc.). it is predicted to increase the Coulombic efficiency of the MFCs, by increasing the amount of electron transported compared to the available electrons released during the anaerobic digestion in the anode chamber.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Many challenges are addressed during this research plan, including a detailed analysis of literature review. Preliminary batch tests were very important to be conducted to assess the electrical energy production from raw wastewater waste. Actual experiments are under investigation.
