Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Sri Lanka is a lower-middle-income country with a higher rate of low birth weight (LBW). The proposed prospective birth cohort study aims to identify modifiable risk factors for LBW in the Sri Lankan context, with a particular focus on maternal nutrition. We were able to implement the study successfully during the first year of the fellowship. While subject recruitment and follow-up interviews were ongoing, we conducted a systematic review to pool the scientific evidence published so far in our research area and performed a preliminary data analysis of the ongoing prospective birth cohort. We published the systematic review in a reputable, high-impact journal and conducted an oral presentation at a conference to share and discuss the preliminary data analysis findings.
