Outline of Annual Research Achievements

During the last fiscal year we spent our time on the following projects.
1) The study of non-supersymmetric fixed points in five spacetime dimensions. (Mohammad Akhond in collaboration with Masazumi Honda and Francesco Mignosa). We managed to find infinite families of phase transitions which could be governed by CFTs without supersymmetry. Our findings were published in a paper in Scipost Physics.
2) Study of generalised anomalies of QCD from holography. (Mohammad Akhond and Shigeki Sugimoto) We have been studying the string theory origin of novel anomalies uncovered from a field theoretic perspective in recent years. We have obtained several encouraging results and are in the process of performing further checks to ensure their validity.
3) An extensive study of the Higgs branch of theories with 8 supercharges which reside on Hanany-Witten brane systems which include Dp-NS5-D(p+2) branes and O(p+2) planes. (Mohammad Akhond in collaboration with Guillermo Arias-Tamargo, Federico Carta, Julius Grimminger, and Amihay Hanany) Such systems were previously relatively unexplored, due to a lack of techniques to probe their moduli spaces. However, the recent technique of magnetic quivers allowed us to perform a comprehensive scan of such systems in 3,5 and 6 spacetime dimensions. We are currently drafting our results into two papers; one dedicated to 3d brane systems, and one to brane systems in 5 and 6 dimensions.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

Our research is currently going well. We are involved in several projects, which have ambitious scope, but at the same time achievable goals. We expect to publish our findings related to these projects in the near future.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In the future we aim to spend more time studying aspects of generalised and categorical symmetries, both from the holographic perspective, as well as its lattice formulation. Dr. Akhond also hope to revive an old project with Leonardo Santilli and Christoph Uhlemann, related to superconformal index of long quivers and microstates of AdS black holes. Though some promising results were obtained, the project came to a standstill as we got busy with other things. Finally, Dr. Akhond will dedicate some time to a newly emerging collaboration with Minsung Kim and Francesco Mignosa, about the complete prepotential for 5d KK theories.
