Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Our research began with a robust survey development process, involving both Zoom and in-person meetings among research team investigators, community stakeholders, and policy makers. These discussions were informed by prior studies and focused on identifying key areas of inquiry. Additionally, we have developed an advertising campaign tailored to young LGBT Japanese participants, achieving this through iterative workshops with a designer. We conducted a review of currently available materials on the health of sexual minorities in Japan, and prepared research articles on these topics in Australia as a background for the work to be completed in this project. Based on this background we identified key demographic and psychosocial factors associated with some negative psychological outcomes in gender diverse young people, and also characterized illicit drug use and other risk behaviors in international populations of gender diverse minorities. These results informed the development of the advertising campaign and the questionnaire for Japanese youth, to ensure it was culturally sensitive and able to attract maximum responses when advertised to these communities. As a result of this work we publixhed two papers in international journals.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Currently, the survey translation process has been completed, carried out by an LGBT researcher and a translation expert, and has been rigorously reviewed by our team alongside Japanese specialists. Alongside this, an ethics application critical to the study's progress has been drafted and is undergoing review. The advertising materials, including designs and videos, have been finalized after multiple revisions.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Looking ahead, we aim to launch the survey and monitor its effectiveness in reaching and engaging the target demographic. Feedback will be gathered to assess the impact of the advertising campaign and refine our strategies if needed. Ongoing analysis will inform the next phases of research, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with community needs and ethical standards. Further development of resources, possibly including additional translations and ethical reviews, will be considered to expand the study's scope and depth.
