Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We have completed development of the survey questionnaires, prepared advertising that is suitable for sexual minority youth, and passed the institutional review board at St. Luke's International University. There were some delays in preparing the questionnaires since they needed to be developed in consultation with non government organizations representing the community groups who will complete the questionnaires (young, sexual minority youth) and this required extensive consultation. The Institutional Review Board approved collecting information on young people aged 15 - 24 with only minor caveats, and we have been able to successfully make advertising accounts on Tik Tok and Facebook. Following these milestones, we launched the survey, which has been generating positive feedback and data. We also conducted research on social capital and health among men who have sex with men in Japan, which helped to inform the structure of the questionnaires and campaign for this project, and research on how Japanese young gay and bisexual men seek support regarding their identity. This research was published in academic journals and will inform our approach to research and reporting of the present study in the next year.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Currently, our survey is actively being promoted and is showing promising results, with participation nearing our goal of 5,000 LGBT young people. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, indicating effective reach and engagement within the target community. This success underscores the efficacy of our advertising development and strategies and the relevance of our survey content.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the upcoming year, our primary focus will be on data analysis to derive comprehensive insights from the survey results. This will inform the drafting of a detailed research report. Additionally, we plan to continue our contributions to academic discourse by preparing further publications for international journals. These efforts will aim to share our findings broadly and contribute to global knowledge on LGBT issues, with the ultimate goal of influencing policy and community support systems in Japan and Asia.

Causes of Carryover |
Most of the 2023 FY budget was intended to be used for advertising, but due to delays in the preparation of the questionnaire we delayed the advertising of the survey to early 2024FY, and carried the budget over to support this advertising.
