Outline of Annual Research Achievements

7つの地磁気嵐例における熱圏NO冷却放射の応答時間とジュール加熱率との関係について、EISCATトロムソレーダーによるジュール加熱率の測定結果と、NASAのTIMED衛星 SABER による一酸化窒素(NO)放射観測を組み合わせ用いて調査した。その結果、熱圏冷却放出の大きさは地磁気嵐の強さに強く依存することや、ジュール加熱率に対するNO冷却放射の時間差は地磁気嵐の強さには依存しないこと等が明らかになった。特に、TIEGCM数値シミュレーションで計算されるNO放射については、 SABERによるNO放射観測結果と良い一致を示した。それに対し、 TIEGCMによるジュール加熱率については、EISCATレーダーによる測定結果とは一致しないケースが多々見られた。これらの研究成果成果を学術論文としてまとめ、出版した。
