Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Positive self-bias and self-regulation are two important topics of social cognition. People tend to perceive themselves as superior to others, which is called positive self-evaluation. Positive self-evaluation is beneficial for personal mental health and well-being, but it leaves a bad impression. People need the skill, i.e., self-regulation, to control their evaluation to avoid impairing social relations. This study aims to explore the psychological and neural mechanisms of regulating self-evaluations when receiving social feedback. In 2022, I further refined the details of the experiment design. I recruited two participants to collect the stimuli and finished part of the experimental programming. I have applied to the ethics committee and gotten approval for the experiments.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Research progress is a little delayed due to the program research tasks which are time-consuming, especially when it involves using programming languages that I have not learned before, such as JavaScript. Additionally, preparing IRB documents and getting approval can also take a significant amount of time. The IRB approval process is necessary to ensure that research involving human subjects is conducted ethically and with appropriate protections. However, it is lengthy and complex, involving multiple rounds of revisions and resubmissions.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
After final confirmation of every material and task programming, we will start to recruit the participants and conduct the behavioral experiment this year.
