Research Abstract |
In this study, we developed a strong terahertz light source to accelerate electrons in solids and to realize an extraordinary non-equilibrium electron system. In graphene and quantum well systems, we observed electrons are excited to the highly energetic state by the strong terahertz pulse and induce carrier multiplication via impact ionization process. In addition, we constructed a theory that can describe extremely nonlinear optical processes of electrons under strong terahertz light field, such as higher harmonic generation in solids.
