| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
25年度は、カナダ・ラブラドルの地質調査を７～８月に行った。本年度は本研究計画の最終年度になるため、過去２年間の調査で、再確認を必要とするところを中心に地質調査を行った。最終的に、St. John’s Harbour South, St. John’s Harbour West, Big Island, Shuldham Island, Nulliak IslandとPangertok Inletで詳細な地質図を完成させ、Upernavik IslandやTigigakyuk Inletでは ルートマップを作成した。また、それらの地域で合計3000以上の岩石試料を採取した。地質図の結果は国際誌に投稿した。また、本地域に出現する縞状鉄鉱層の起源を研究するため、その比較として、南アフリカバーバートン緑色岩帯とトランスヴァール超層群の地質調査を行った。
本年度に採取した岩石試料の薄片を作成し、２６年度中に完了させた。
これまでに採取した花崗岩質片麻岩からジルコンを分離し、それらのU-Pb年代測定を行った。その結果、39.5億年前の年代を持つトーナル岩質花崗岩を原岩とする片麻岩をSt. John’s Harbour South地域で発見した。同地域には超塩基性岩、苦鉄質岩、炭酸塩岩と泥質岩からなる表成岩帯が存在し、それはそのトーナル岩に貫入されていることから、その表成岩帯の年代は39.5億年前よりも古いことが示された。従来の最古の表成岩帯は38.3億年前の西グリーンランド南部の縞状鉄鉱層とされるので、本研究は地球で最古の表成岩を発見したことになる。
また、その表成岩帯中の泥質岩から12Cに富む、生命由来と考えられる炭質物を発見した。それは、従来より、１億年以上更新する最古の生命の証拠である。
