Research Abstract |
We developed a new system that can help designers create their designs based on the color universal design. The system re-colors the original images to become clearly visible to dichromats and elderly people but keeping the same color categories as the original images for trichromats. The evaluation of the system indicated that the proposed system is effective. In addition, we examined how luminance and distance information can be converted to amplitude, frequency and duration of sound. The results of evaluation experiments showed that participants can estimate distance and luminance level, suggesting that frequency and duration of sound can be used to create a sensation substitute system of visual information using auditory signals. Finally, we developed a new spatial recognition system with a haptic device, and conducted some experiments. The results showed that we can convert visual information, such as distance and shape of surrounding objects, to tactile stimuli with this system.
