Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to assess functional and anatomical properties of quadriceps femoris including vastus intermedius (VI) during knee extension tasks. Neuromuscular activation pattern of VI was similar to other vasti muscles during low-intensity of sustained contraction for 1-h. On the other hand, neuromuscular activation of VI was significantly higher during flexed knee joint angles during dynamic fatiguing contractions. This unique neuromuscular activation patter was found during dynamic knee extensions at 60% or higher one-repetition maximum loads. We concluded that vastus intermedius was higher contribution during flexed knee joint angles.
