Research Abstract

炭素原子からなる一原子層シートであるグラフェンの発見以降、究極の薄さをもつ原子膜の研究が活発になってきている。グラフェンは一原子層であるが故に、極めて高い電気伝導特性を示し、また一原子層故にほぼ透明な材料である。グラフェンの他にも、半導体原子膜MoS2や、高い誘電率をもつ酸化物ナノシートなど、多様な原子膜からなる系が現在実験的に作製可能となってきている。さらにこれらの原子膜を組み合わせることで、新しい機能を有する原子膜超構造も考えることができる。
本研究課題では、グラフェンや遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイド系物質に代表される原子レベルの薄さをもつ系について、そこで現れる特異な電子物性の理論的解明、端や表面などの境界面が電子状態に与える影響を理論的に明らかにすることが目的である。さらに、異なる原子薄膜からなる人工超構造における電子状態解析と電子輸送特性の解析を行うことで、新たな機能を有する原子膜人工超構造の理論設計を目指す。
本年度は、二重層グラフェン(Graphene Double Layer)構造における電子伝導特性の理論解析を実施した。最近、グラフェンや遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイド系からなる原子薄膜物質を人工的に積層し、電子デバイスを作ることが可能になってきている。我々は、キャリアの移動度が、グラフェンを取り囲む誘電率の環境効果だけでなく、グラフェンの層間距離(デバイスの構造パラメータ)にも大きく依存することを明らかにした。特に、高周波デバイスへの応用には高い移動度が求められることから、この計算結果は、最適な構造パラメータと物質の組み合わせを考慮した設計が必要となることを示唆している。この他、グラフェン量子ポイントコンタクトにおける電子伝導解析、MoS2薄膜における総数依存性の理論解析、BC3薄膜における電子状態解析を実施した。
