Research Abstract

Topological insulators are characterized by a spin-helical metallic surface state, while it is insulating in the bulk. This fascinating property enables a dissipationless carrier transport at the surface. The aim of this work was to newly develop more ideal topological insulator materials and resolve their spin-helical textures. We have confirmed that several ternary chalcogenide materials possess topologically non-trivial states and their spin-helical textures have been successfully figured out by using the spin- and angle- resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and the low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy.
