Research Abstract |
We find that macrophages and RPE play an important role to form subretinal fibrosis. Subretinal macrophage inoculation leads to MCP-1 production from RPE. Due to cytokine/chemokine screening, we also find that IL-27 is markedly decreased in the inoculated site. Importantly, IL-27 supplementation prevents subretinal fibrosis. We thus propose that IL-27 supplementation and/or preventing IL-27 reduction must be effective to improve the visual acuity in the vitreoretinal disease patients.
