Research Abstract

・VLF波動の定常観測に必要な100kHzサンプルの自動観測ソフトの開発を名古屋大学で行った。
・キャンペーン観測のために、電源のない場所でも稼働できるバッテリー駆動のループアンテナシステムの開発を金沢大学で行った。
・平成24年2月にカナダのアサバスカとフォートバーミリオン観測点に、高感度全天カメラとループアンテナを設置し、オーロラとVLF波動の同時キャンペーン観測を10日間、行った。
・アサバスカ観測点では、これらに加えて、狭視野カメラ、EMCCDカメラを設置して、オーロラの高時間分解能の微細構造観測を行った。
・アサバスカ観測点におけるループアンテナの観測は、キャンペーン観測終了後も継続して自動で行い、データを蓄積している。
・アサバスカ観測点で以前から継続している高感度単色全天カメラ、プロトンフォトメータ、誘導磁力計の自動定常観測は、平成23年度も維持
・継続し、得られたデータはWebページで公開した。
・これらの観測から得られるデータを、THEMIS衛星、FAST衛星の観測と組み合わせた解析を行い、オーロラに伴う磁気圏-電離圏結合過程の詳細を調べた。特にパルセィティングオーロラの磁気圏ソースでTHEMIS衛星が観測したプラズマシートのプラズマの特性や、サブオーロラ帯のアサバスカで観測されるEMIC/Pc1波動の偏波の方向と、孤立プロトンオーロラの位置関係の特性などを明らかにした。また、THEMIS衛星の観測から、オーロラに伴う粒子加速の朝夕非対称性が、磁気圏のプラズマの密度・温度分布で説明できることを、断熱モデルを通して明らかにした。
・これらの観測で得られた成果を国内外の学会や研究会で発表し、共同研究を推進した。

Reason

当初の予定通り、カナダで観測候補地を選定し、平成23年2月に2観測点で同時キャンペーン観測を実施することができた。この観測から、様々なタイプのホイッスラー波動やEMIC波動が観測されており、現在、その解析を進めているところである。これらのことから、本研究計画はおおむね順調に進展している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

当初の予定通り、平成24年度にもう一度カナダでキャンペーン観測をおこなう。特に平成24年度は、米国でRBSP衛星が打ち上げられて内部磁気圏の集中観測が行われる予定であるため、これに呼応した観測を行う。また、カナダ・アサバスカ観測点に設置され、自動定常観測を継続している光学観測機器、誘導磁力計、VLFアンテナによる観測を維持・継続し、データの蓄積をはかるとともに、得られたデータをデータベース化して公開し、世界の関連研究者と共同研究を推進する。
