| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
1)現地調査およびサンプリング：エジプト，サウジアラビアでの調査およびサンプリングを想定していたが，政情が安定していると言えない状態にあったため，アフリカ（ケニア，ジプチ），南米エリア，タイ（比較として）などでの調査を実施し，ヒルギダマシ林の分布状況の広域調査とDNA解析のためのサンプリングを行った。あわせて，ラクダなど家畜による食害の実態を調査した。並行して，光合成・蒸散特性の調査のためのサンプリングを行った。2)DNAの解析:現地から持ち帰ったサンプルは，岡山大にてDNAの分析を行い, マイクロサテライト法にてエリア間の遺伝的な近縁性について検討した。並行して，ヒルギダマシのDNAマーカーの開発を実施した。3)光合成・蒸散特性の解析：現地から持ち帰ったサンプルを岡山大にて光合成・蒸散特性の分析を行った。4)研究成果を平易な媒体にまとめ，公開した。5)スーダンより研究者を和歌山大学に招聘し，公開研究会を実施した。
