| Research Abstract |
Although Jesus in the Gospels does not discuss theodicy as to why there is evil in the world, his whole ministry is active fight against evil. He shows God is offering salvation to the people from all their sufferings: from their sins, diseases annd poverty. According to the prevalent Deuteronomistic idea or retribution, sufferers are tended to be seen as being punished for some sins. Yet, Jesus shows that God has compassion on those who are suffering and saves them. In thinking thus, Jesus is in the tradition of believing in God's righteousness to keep His promise of blessing to Abraham and his offspring, believing it as surpassing His legal justice. Jesus calls us to participate in God's saving act by helping and forgiving each other, thereby realizing God's kingdom on earth. The righteousness of God Jesus shows us is proved to be true by actively fighting against evil, not by speculation about the logical problem of evil in the world which is created by a good almighty God.
