Research Abstract |
While the trend of Brazilians of Japanese descent to seek long-term or permanent residence in Japan increases, academic success of their children remains problematic. This research, performed in Japan and Brazil, clarified problems related to such schoolchildren and pursued resolution methods based on mutual understanding between schools in both countries. Survey findings revealed 3 questions central to this issue. 1) How do Brazilian teachers approach children with enrolment experience in public schools? 2) How do schoolchildren and caretakers evaluate the schools in which they were enrolled? 3) How do the Japanese and Portuguese language skills of school-aged returnees change?
