Research Abstract |
This study analyses the extent to which fixed-term employees have been transferred to indefinite-term employment due to a tightening of regulations on fixed-term employment in Korea in 2007. The analysis concludes that regulations achieved employment stabilization for fixed-term employees in the banking and retail trade sectors. The study also reveals that the majority of employees that were transferred to indefinite-term employment were not given regular employee status. Consequently, wages remain lower and opportunities for promotion remain limited for these workers in comparison with regular employees.
