Outline of Final Research Achievements

University extension in Japan started from Meiji era and lots of faculties and students have been involved in the movement. But students’ activities have not been examined from this point of view.
When university students felt proud that they had to be the elite who directed the public, they enthusiastically behaved as an interpreter of new knowledge. Debating club and “KENJINKAI”(students’ association which consists of those who are from the same hometown) conducted lecture tours with faculties and/or alumni. Those tours increased in the last Meiji era, and got to the golden days at the last Taisho era.
Those were considered as extracurricular activities so far, but could be regarded as a part of “university extension movement” in Japan.
