Research Abstract |
Disparity, a morphological aspect of diversity, is commonly measured based on the amount of morphospace occupied by a taxon of interest. However, assessment of disparity is readily biased by a particular pattern of morphospace occupation such as spurious correlation between morphological parameters and skewed distribution of observed forms. This study focused on the potential biases that arise as a consequence of adopting inappropriate analytical options. Developing an appropriate measure of disparity is crucial for exploration of disparity dynamics across the Phanerozoic.
