Research Abstract |
Laser linewidth transfer is a technique to transfer a laser spectral linewidth to other wavelengths using a high-speed controllable optical frequency comb. We have firstly succeeded in observing the clock transition spectra of 171Yb atoms in an optical lattice without an ultrastable optical cavity for the clock wavelength (578 nm). We also observe a beat note between two lasers at different wavelengths. As a result, we were able to obtain 2 x 10^-15 at 1-s averaging as the frequency instability and less than 1 Hz as the laser linewidth.
