Research Abstract |
The degradation pathway of high-mannose type N-glycans in plant cells has been clarified. In this study, we identified a gene encoding (alpha)1,3-fucosidase acting on Fuc(alpha)1-3GlcNAc linkage in plant complex type N-glycans. Its substrate specificity analysis revealed the degradation pathway of plant complex type N-glycans. The (alpha)1,3-fucosidase-deficient mutant changed the composition of N-glycans in plant cells, showing that (alpha)1,3-fucosidase is an essential glycosidase in plant N-glycan degradation.
