Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study investigates reasons why Chinese farm households do not allocate more time of their members to non-farm wage employment to improve their income. For this purpose, it proposes new empirical methods to study their labor supply behavior. It finds that the head of Chinese farm households had been offered a relatively low wage or his or her work hours had been constrained in the labor market to some extent. It also finds that more participation in local wage work or migration could have a tradeoff for farm productivity.
